Central Port Coquitlam is one of the larger neighbourhoods of PoCo. The north-western portion contains the downtown commercial and retail strip along Shaunghnessy which also has a large number of condos and multiplexes. The central areas of the neighbourhood provides a variety of single family detached homes, townhomes, and apartments. The south-eastern area has mostly light industry as well as activity and instruction such as workout, dance, and martial arts studios. For the nature lovers, the neighbourhood has lots of outdoor areas like Gates Park and the very popular Lions Park with a big playground and zipline for kids.
DOWNTOWN POCO
The PoCo downtown area along Shaughnessy (from Lougheed Highway to Wilson Avenue ) has a variety of retail, services, and entertainment including library, city hall, restaurants, pubs, grocers, bars, coffee shops, comedy club, and dinner theatre. This strip also serves as the location for the PoCo classic car show which is a popular outdoor family event. The downtown core blends quickly into a more a suburban neighbourhood if you travel further south along Shaughnessy and then moving south west towards the light industrial district as well as CP railway yards to its northern border.
RECREATION AND COMMUNITY
Central Port Coquitlam is a hidden gem for outdoor lovers. Central PoCo includes access to Traboulay Trails, River Trails along the Coquitlam River, Gates Park, Lions Park, and activities at the rebuilt Port Coquitlam Community Centre. The centre began rebuild in 2017 and this will continue into 2021. Most of the activity areas like hockey rinks and pool are complete but areas like gym, multipurpose and children’s area will be completed fall/summer 2021. The Leigh Square Community Arts Village offers classes, programs and events throughout the year for both young and old.
