North Coquitlam contains the Downtown Coquitlam core. This important downtown city centre plan is part of Metro Vancouver’s Regional Plan and is considered a “Regional City Centre“! The plans for downtown Coquitlam are to increase the downtown office and commercial and mixed-used zones. During recent years, North Coquitlam has seen mostly residential building growth and the plan is to attract further businesses to strengthen the community. Massive changes with rezoning plans are in progress for Coquitlam Centre mall starting with the north east corner of the lot.
There are very few houses or townhomes in North Coquitlam with the few homes that are in the area likely to be retargeted for multi-residential. With North Coquitlam having the main skytrain corridor of Coquitlam Center, Lincoln, Lafarge-Lake stations, there are big plans for this area. Most of the Tri-City population converges at Town Centre for most of the yearly celebrations and festivals already.
This neighbourhood is the perfect balance of downtown living with a small city feel. It has some cool work-share locations, excellent transportation, good entertainment, and a variety of restaurants. The urban environment with natural backdrop reminds many of us of early Vancouver. There are convenient urban amenties juxtaposed to quick access to boating, fishing, hunting, hiking, and many other outdoor sporting and recreation activities.
