Mackenzie Heights and the surrounding area has CP Railway history. The area is primarily single family homes on generous lots but a number of mid-rise condos are taking hold and try t maintain the charm of this area. The character of this area was paved when California Spanish mission style homes were built along treelined streets. There are also Tudor revival style homes and small retail businesses that locals love.
Hidden Gem
Mackenzie Heights is coveted by developers for residential development because of the quiet neighbourhoods with the downtown and west side conveniences nearby. It is a hidden gem for residents and developers with charming home styles with green backdrops and views of North Shore Mountains. Even with development, the new townhomes and condos try to maintain either the Tudor revival or Mission styles.
Balaclava Park and greenspaces
There has been a lot of rezoning and development discussion. The desire is the maintain some of the quaint small businesses (like those near 33rd Ave. & Mackenzie). Residents want developers to keep commercial street level buildings recessed from sidewalk to keep a retail space. This is a very walkable and bikeable area with neighbourly shopping conveniences centered around Balaclava park with greenspaces dotting the area for light recreation and enjoyment.
